Starting in the industry as a 16 year-old Runner at a top film optical company of the day, Gary worked his way to Lead Cameraman and soon discovered that his calling lay not in world of post-production, but on the sets of commercials and feature films. 

He moved towards his goal through Motion Control and special effects photography, working for Britain’s most revered post house, The Mill and running their Motion Control Studio.  At The Mill, Gary worked on many hundreds of high-end commercials and movies including, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, ENTRAPMENT, THE MUMMY, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH and ENEMY OF THE STATE to name a few.  His effects work took place both on the ‘Super Cyclops’ process stage at Shepperton Studios and on many locations with the ‘Milo’ mobile Mo-Co rigs.  By the late 90’s, Gary had already been developing his craft, whilst working alongside many top cinematographers.  

In 1998 Gary was given the chance to be the DoP on what was to become an award winning BMW commercial for Paul Street.  He has since gone on to shoot many more award winning commercials worldwide with a host of talented directors.  A specialist in automotive photography, he has shot commercials and high-end corporate films for almost all the manufacturers in the car industry .

Gary first collaborated with Duncan Jones on the Carling ‘Robots’ spot before they came together on Duncan's first feature MOON, which has since won 22 awards.  Since then Gary won the Technicolor Award for Best Cinematography at the Dinard British Film Festival 2012 for his work on ILL MANORS.

Since 2012 Gary has shot several well received, flagship dramas for Channel 4 and the BBC, including CUT, RUN and THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY: A COPPER’S TALE.
